About Us

The LIFCO Residents Association is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation with an Executive  Committee and various committee members serving entirely voluntarily for the benefit of the whole community of Strubensvalley and Little falls, whether they are a homeowner or a tenant.

Our Vision and Mission statements, which are based on the original reasons for founding the Association 10 years ago, remain pertinent and form the background to our activities.

Our Vision

To inform, encourage and activate the community of Strubensvalley/Little Falls for the common good.

9

Mission

To generate public awareness in order to harness the energy of the community for action, and, to provide community-based information to decision-makers for the betterment of our suburbs.

As a Community-Based Organisation (CBO), our Association has no real decision-making powers as such, but we act (within these broad guidelines) to bring issues of community concern to the attention of the authorities in such a way as to influence the local and provincial decision-makers so that they will act to promote the sustainable development and conservation of what makes Strubensvalley/Little Falls special.

It is therefore our function and duty to act in a ‘watch dog’ capacity and try to protect, secure, and beautify our suburbs.

We are continuously looking for volunteers to  fundraise for  us and assist with marketing so as to increase our membership base.

Can you assist on the different committees?

Many of these committees are desperate for volunteers, skilled or otherwise, who can give as little as an hour a week. Volunteering is a unique way to get to know your community, while changing people’s (or in some cases, animals’) lives.

LIFCO Values

Trust

We build a community of neighbours who trust one another.

Caring

We care for one another and will go the extra mile for our neighbours, including providing victim support when affected by crime.

Alert

We are alert to watch out for suspicious people and vehicles.

Positive

We work together as positive people to have influence on the wellbeing and energy of our neighbourhood.

Action-oriented

We do not sit back; we stand up and implement actions to improve safety and cooperation in our neighbourhood.

Good governance

We have a clear structure and sound strategy based on our Constitution to ensure that we achieve our goals.

Safety

We believe that most types of crimes can be prevented if we practice safety ourselves.

Relationships

We build relationships with the Police, security companies, businesses, and other role-players to mobilise people against crime.

Communication

We believe in open lines of communication and will therefore use all communications methods to reach out to one another – SMS, phone, email, meetings and social media.

Good citizenship

As good law-abiding citizens, we promote the value of citizenship and that is the reason why we say no to crime! Prevention – we believe that crime can not only be reduced, but also prevented if we can raise our level of awareness among residents.

Visibility

Our strategy and actions are based on the principle of visibility, the more visible we are, the lower the crime rate.
