Fencing Greenbelt

Historically open spaces and park areas were an asset to residents. Unfortunately, these areas turned into a breeding ground for criminals. Informal housing can and has previously been erected, with adjacent properties being easy targets to house break-ins and residents utilising the area have been attacked.

Due to the above incidents, LIFCO obtained permission from City Parks to fence the greenbelt area on:

• Witwatersrand Street (90m)
• Mirella Street (20m)
• Howick Street (70m)

By fencing this area we can turn the greenbelt into our own “Lifestyle Park”. Could you think of a better way to give expression to your sense of adventure, whether you are a general outdoor fanatic, a fitness enthusiast or a family looking for a space to unwind?

A total of 10 cameras will be installed in the park, the greenbelt and the mountain. BCI Security will install, monitor and respond to the cameras 24/7.

How do we make this happen?

The total area is approximately 180 running metres - 60 palisade panels of 3m x 1,8m. The cost per panel including the posts and labour is around R1500 each. 

It will only take sixty businesses and / or residents to sponsor a panel to make this project a reality. 

September 2022 update: The Witwatersrand portion has been completely fenced off thanks to our businesses and residents who have contributed thus far. The remaining 90 meters on Mirella (20m) and Howick (70m) streets needs to be completed for the entire greenbelt to be fenced off.
