LIFCO and large retailer team up to brighten up main road bus stop

The cleaner area now features bright green commuter shelters

Neat and tidy surroundings matter to both homes and businesses alike.

Forging the beginnings of a private and corporate collaboration, Little Falls Residents Association (LIFCO) teamed up with hardware and lifestyle giants Leroy Merlin for much-needed community service. The concrete shelter that serves as the bus and taxi stop on Hendrik Potgieter Road near Cascades Road had become an overgrown, graffiti-riddled mess and on Saturday September 10, residents and staff gave the area a quick makeover.

The clean-up was initiated by LIFCO member, Keegan Stranack who approached Leroy Merlin Little Falls for assistance. The retailer was happy to oblige, providing materials and staff to complement LIFCO’s volunteers who together filled several black bags with cut grass, and painted the shelters bright green. In addition to the gardening and paint job, Leroy Merlin donated bottles of weed killer to assist LIFCO in maintaining the well-manicured entry points of their suburb.

“We feel we would like to make a positive difference in this community. The results have been quite pleasing as the clean-up and paint job have made a great improvement for commuters and motorists.” said Leroy Merlin Little Falls Manager, Eric Botha. Next on the LIFCO and Leroy Merlin checklist is the famous Little Falls sign. Once the parties have worked out the logistics, crews will take the steep trek to the giant letters to brighten of the landmark which hangs above the suburb”.
